One local family's recent trip turned out to be one of historic proportions. Sam Houser, President of Houser Transport, Inc. in Vale was thrilled to take his two daughters, Kindell and Colby, to Italy to perform with the Suzuki School of the Arts orchestra. The daughters have been practicing and performing music for the past eight years under director Nan Freeman's supervision and instruction.
Colby, who is sixteen years old and a junior at West Lincoln High School, plays piano and Kindell, 15, is in 9th grade at West Lincoln and plays violin. The girls have excelled at their respective instruments and performed on numerous occasions. Colby performed last year in Washington, D.C. at the John F. Kennedy Center for the performing arts as well as in New York. See more photos in our photo section.
Both girls are very active. They both play basketball and Colby plays softball as well. Both work after school at their father's company to earn spending money and to help their dad.
Both girls were asked to tour with the North Carolina Youth Orchestra in Italy this year. The group plays Level 4 music and memorized all their music for the two-hour concert.
